Welcome to the Ecology and Biodiversity Centre, where our passion lies in exploring the intricate workings of marine ecosystems.
We are dedicated to uncovering how these vital systems function, the threats they face, and how we can use and protect marine resources sustainably. Our focus spans from temperate to polar regions, but our research has a global perspective.
We dive deep into understanding and addressing the impacts of climate change, mapping marine life, and modeling how ecosystems evolve. Our work includes investigating ways to restore marine habitats and supporting smart decision-making for sustainable development. This encompasses studying seaweed cultures, marine protected areas, and recovery plans for endangered species.
In our Centre, we are committed to providing up-to-date, reliable, and accessible data on marine ecosystems. Our goal is to drive timely actions that help conserve, regenerate, and restore these precious environments. Our research blends biology, ecology, ocean physics, marine chemistry, and advanced techniques in statistics and modeling to tackle these challenges and make a real difference for our oceans.
The Centre for Ecology and Biodiversity is led by Associate Professor Vanessa Lucieer (Centre Head) and Dr Myriam Lacharité (Deputy Centre Head).
